Stadium, a cultural introduction

Getting to know the word from all angles...

Michal is thinking over the soundness of supplementing his prodigious Fiction Corpus with a few success stories; cites fatigueDictionary icon

I accept the idea of using English as an international language for the world. I don't have faith in the prevailing game plan by which the English tongue is taught.Pointer

Perfecting a person's adroitness with a language isn't like introducing a safer match. A language - a living tongue - is not merely an instrument that you can learn to wield with greater amounts of precision. A shared language can't be decoupled from the shared logic of a society of which it is a description. A language isn't recited; it happens - and keeps happening as long as a circle of people keeps using it.

To make a student recite English is to cheat him out of its cultural context. A worthy teacher has to find a way to introduce it; the prudent pupil goes out to seek it.

A dictionary can be an influential tool. The best dictionaries define words based on a specific corpus, a body of written language of various scope and consistency. Such a corpus could contain everything from a book about literature to some real hard boiled fiction. I developed my "hefty" Fiction Corpus to form a specific type of dictionary based on the ability of one man to tell a story in many different forms. It is a labor of love and listening.

I have sculpted a million words and I have evaluated them, reshaping them - not just to teach the English tongue but to be an advocate for the human soul, and to pressure that spirit or soul not just to recite but to happen.

Michal's Dictionary:
Understanding the word Stadium

A word can represent many things. First and foremost it represents a type of gesture. A specific way of speaking. A specific way of inscribing a mark. A specific way of moving your hand. To know one of these kinds of gestures is to know how to pronounce the word stadium in some kind of way.

If you want to communicate an idea using the word stadium, you will need to know what other people are made to think when you make the gesture. You will never have complete awareness of or control over the associations or identities that are invoked by a set of words, but you can know what was and what is a single word's jointly accepted definition, at least for a given place, thereby tracing a direction which will help you to understand what kinds of associations and identities are driving its use.

By using the word yourself, you enter into a long-standing albeit oftentimes unconscious debate over its definition, forever entangling yourself into the history of its use. The way you use it, and which other words you use it with carries weight.

The more you know about where the word stadium is located in the fabric of a language, the better you will be at exploiting its cultural power.

Usage of Stadium in The Gospel of Jesus H.

A picture of the planet Mars

An experimental science fiction Christology that makes Jesus the hard boiled narrator of his own early years on a bizarro earth made dark by volcanic ash and informally ruled by a man from Mars who sells bottled air.

Hell's Ditch ran west through the orchards. At a certain point, it ceased being the gully it was and became truly a ditch. From this point, there were indirect ways north through the orchards that led, ultimately, to Peaceful Road and Treblinka's Communal Cemetery, where Jesus's father was buried and where Jesus had his tent. Unfortunately, it was getting dark. "See those flags?" said Jesus, pointing down the valley to the northeast. "Those are the flags of the stadium. That's where your group - the one you're registered with - is sleeping."

Verse 600 from the chapter called Security

"It's only because they were sleeping in the stadium," said Zoe. She was smiling. Her face was bright.

"Did you go to Mass?" asked Jesus.

Verses 642-643 from the chapter called Security

Usage of Stadium in Tsiga Tsiga Tsiga

Bullets whizzing by a statue of Nikola Tesla

A collection of stories featuring a sexy Parisian ghost, a spooky Moon base full of vagina-faced aliens, a policeman with an Irish name, a truck full of watermelons, a flautist, and a man who has to see another man about a diseased horse.

"And you can afford to take the rocket sled."

Neal nodded. When the ride was over, he took Tatum to the stadium. She was impressed. A network of magnetic rails was capable of seating people against the roof.

"You should come later," said Neal. "We have a huge game against the Pf Chang Fantails. You'll see what it's like when it's full."

Tatum smiled. "I think I will. I want to see this thing in action."

– from “Dirty Manga People Are Disgusting,” a spooky story featuring icky aliens

Her apartment was ransacked. Everything was on the floor: her clothes, her notepads, her electronic newspapers-even her toys. Tatum gasped. The PDA was gone. She stormed back to the stadium. Barging into the administrative office, she told the frightened, bewildered Manga People that if any of them were responsible for burglarizing her apartment, she would go ape-shit . She was going to call the bailiffs.

– from “Dirty Manga People Are Disgusting,” a spooky story about what it means to keep people separate

The baths were on the other side of the stadium. It was the only place to bathe in Sams Town. Tatum marched to the lobby in a matter of minutes. Placing her shoes and her stockings into a locker, she hastened down the tiled corridor. She passed vaulted chambers one by one. Pools of water stretched to the walls. It was odd to see Manga People naked. There was nothing between their legs.

Usage of Stadium in Miscellaneous Dingbats

The title of the book at the end of a string of miscellaneous dingbats

A story book full of short fiction stories. An interesting bedtime mystery. A fairy tale. Science fiction romance. Adult life. Uninspiring gay fiction. Horror.

I was taken to a football game. Not at a stadium. More like a field with a stand. My uncle called it "The Moldavian Wembley." This is where my stomach caught up with me. At some point during the first half I rushed out to find a toilet. The only permament structure I found had a long line sticking out of it. The portable toilets were crowded. I decided to find something further afield. At the very least a bush.

– from “The Most Idiotic Actress,” a fictional story based on true events as related to the author

I discovered a beautiful pavilion. Completely abandoned. Pristine toilet followed pristine toilet. I commenced spewing all over. Grunting and panting through the intervals. I shat half my body weight before I heard somebody come inside. This person was going from toilet to toilet. Opening every door. I was afraid my gut wasn't the only thing about to be liquidated. My unseen nemesis banged on my stall. I calmly ignored it. I dispensed half a roll of paper. I cleaned everything up. I don't remember if I flushed. When I opened the door the largest woman I have ever seen snarled at me and started shouting. I have no idea what she was saying. It sounded like a lot. She followed me out of the pavilion and halfway back to the stadium. I was sure if I didn't lose myself in the crowd she would find me and have me killed. That was the end of my trip.

The Body Acceptance Calendar

A really good idea for a monthly calendar

If a 45-year-old businesswoman and hard working mother of three kids is going to pose nude for a calendar, it's gonna have to be a good one. Margo didn't start a coffee shop called the Vagina Cafe to win her favors from the establishment. Even as she dishes out prizes to the 20 women who placed last in the twentienth anniversary run of her town's biggest road race, her business, unlike everyone else, doesn't get mentioned. She was an official sponsor for Christ's sake! But the announcer just couldn't swallow his patriarchy and get the words "Vagina Cafe" out of his mouth. That's not something a proper gentleman would say in front of a crowd of humble God-fearing "ladies" who cherish their modesty! And a Body Acceptance Calendar is certainly not what a humble God-fearing book-seller like a Barnes and Noble would put on their shelves! So how do I expect to sell this in the mainstream? Maybe if you download the free versions a thousand billion times it might help. Start downloading.
