Your, a cultural introduction

Getting to know the word from all angles...

Michal declines to consider the potency of supplementing his wonderful Fiction Corpus with some real speculative fiction; cites fatigueDictionary icon

I regard highly the potency of promulgating English as a global standard. I do challenge the lumbering modus operandi by which English is taught.Pointer

Improving one's artfulness with a language isn't like creating a more prodigious quern. A language - a living language - isn't just a tool that you can teach yourself to manipulate with greater amounts of precision. A spoken tongue can't be cut off from the shared logic of a recognized nation of which it is a description. A language isn't recited; it happens - and keeps happening as long as a circle of people keeps using it.

To make a man recite English is to strip him of its cultural context. A worthy instructor has to find a way to introduce it; the smartest student ventures out to seek it.

A dictionary has the potential to be an influential tool. The best dictionaries define words on the basis of a particular corpus, a body of written language of varying size and consistency. They could include everything from a book about literature to some really commercial fiction. I watched many moons pass developing my "lofty" Fiction Corpus to form a special genre of dictionary based on the ability of one man to tell a story in many different forms. It is a labor of love and listening.

I have shaped a million words and I have evaluated them, reformulating them - not merely to teach an American language but to describe the human soul, and to coax that soul or spirit not just to recite but to happen.

A Better Way to Define English: Grouped into Eight Types of WordsPointer

Type 1 Answers the Question, "Whose?"

The 8 types of words can be associated with the days of the week in the Acceptance calendar. You can remember that the first type of word answers the question "Whose?" by asking yourself whose day is the first day of the week. Sunday, or Victory Day, is a day for everyone to celebrate art.

Michal's Dictionary:
Understanding the word Your

A word can represent many things. First and foremost it represents a type of gesture. A specific way of speaking. A specific way of inscribing a mark. A specific way of moving your hand. To know one of these kinds of gestures is to know how to pronounce the word your in some kind of way.

If you want to communicate an idea using the word your, you will need to know what other people are made to think when you make the gesture. You will never have complete awareness of or control over the associations or identities that are invoked by a set of words, but you can know what was and what is a single word's jointly accepted definition, at least for a given place, thereby tracing a direction which will help you to understand what kinds of associations and identities are driving its use.

By using the word yourself, you enter into a long-standing albeit oftentimes unconscious debate over its definition, forever entangling yourself into the history of its use. The way you use it, and which other words you use it with carries weight.

The more you know about where the word your is located in the fabric of a language, the better you will be at exploiting its cultural power.

Usage of Your in The Gospel of Jesus H.

A picture of the planet Mars

An experimental science fiction Christology that makes Jesus the hard boiled narrator of his own early years on a bizarro earth made dark by volcanic ash and informally ruled by a man from Mars who sells bottled air.

Oh, you are so confused. I love you, child. I carried you in my arms across the deserts of Mars. I love you so very much, but you don't know me! You don't remember me! How can you love me? Listen to your mother, my child. She is dead, but if you listen to her beautiful words - if you pay attention - you will come to know me, child. You will love me. Deep in my heart, I know you will trust me - just like your mother.

Verse 17 from the chapter called Invocation

Oh God! Your mother was so beautiful. She was a diamond ring! A blessed creature! She died! God! She died! Zeus: creature of dust! You took her! You chopped off her head! Placed her in death and destruction! I loved your mother. She was a good woman. She trusted me. In the end, she trusted me. I loved her.

Verse 3 from the chapter called Invocation

You don't understand - but you will understand, my child. Your father is far away, but he is close. He is with your mother in space. They are far away. They orbit the sun around Pluto. Their bodies are machines that never break. Their bodies are machines! Their heads have been transplanted! But their thoughts are with you: they are with you. They love you. God loves you. Zeus does not. He is terrible. Do not trust him. He took your mother's head. He destroyed your father's body! AAAAAAHHHH!!! Sometimes my mind spits bile: pure vomit. It feels like

Verse 8 from the chapter called Invocation

Your father was born in Poland, in the town of Treblinka. He was sent to his aunt for an education. In those days, American schools were the best, and your father's father, a second-rate philosopher, was determined to have his son raised in the United States. Thus, when your father was three years old, he came to live with his aunt.

Usage of Your in Sex for Children

A drawing of a man between a woman's legs in front of another man in a hospital bed

A literature book narrated by a pair of siblings on either side of the Atlantic whose profoundly weird sexual experiences pose a serious challenge to their traditional understanding of mathematicians, marriage, gay young men and God.

At least your little joke blew over their heads, and I have not yet given you away; rest assured: I have no plans to do so, and I doubt that anyone will be perusing Liszt's biography any time soon. But honestly, their daughter's name is Olympia, the girl whose musical education they have entrusted to you. Ah, but they would never appreciate the joke anyway; well, Albert would: it's right up his alley - but for Indiana? It's far too intellectual. I suppose that's why you didn't tell me: you wanted me to figure it out for myself. Well, it certainly was amusing after Mother began relating the story, when suddenly, upon realizing the implication, my initial resentment at being left in the dark began fueling an irrepressible chuckle.

– Title 2, Regarding the Romaniac, Part 1, Section 2, Finding Yourself in A Situation, Paragraph 3

And each plant only produces one bunch of fruit." But someone argued that this was a strike against bananas, since they required so much pruning, a labor-intensive task not to be compared with orchard cultivation. This inspired someone to criticize the banana for exploiting the worker, pointing out how U.S. corporations have always dominated the South American industry. This did not sit well with Banana War boy, and the climate of the conversation continued to warm, until, after Nike mentioned that bananas are available year-round, someone cried out excitedly and said, "You see! You can always count on bananas for your cereal! Well here's the real test, who likes what with their breakfast?"

– Title 1, Regarding Peaches and Bananas, Part 2, Section 8, Partying with Intellectuals, Paragraph 5, Clauses 8-13

Meanwhile, it was Indiana whose privilege it was to smile triumphantly, and, as you presented yourself as the oblivious newcomer, it was entirely natural for her to turn her head and smile in your direction. I, on the other hand, was busy observing what was going on; there was no stopping my concern for my dear little brother: I heard the joke, and took note of its cleverness - but instead of laughing I turned my eyes to you: to the picture of abject foolishness that presented itself before this new-come beauty.

– Title 2, Regarding the Romaniac, Part 1, Section 1, Genital Pain as a Result of Physical Trauma, Paragraph 5

Upstairs, on the other hand, was no laughing matter. There was a small crowd of gentlemen surrounding the door to the ladies' room. It was locked, and poor Christie was locked inside. I asked what the big problem was, and somebody told me the lock was jammed. I couldn't restrain myself: "Doesn't get much use, does it? Don't worry Christie, we'll get you out of here. These gentlemen aren't trying to kidnap you. She's a British subject, you know: that's why she hasn't kicked down your door - that's the way we do it in America."

Bullets whizzing by a statue of Nikola Tesla

A collection of stories featuring a sexy Parisian ghost, a spooky Moon base full of vagina-faced aliens, a policeman with an Irish name, a truck full of watermelons, a flautist, and a man who has to see another man about a diseased horse.

Luka's hands were the only thing holding up Nike's head. He pried apart his friend's eyelids. "If I take you to an ATM, can you get me the money? Just nod." He let go. The head collapsed onto Nike's shoulder. Luka lifted it up. He let go again. Again the head collapsed.

"Is that a yes? What's your pin number?"
